Y-Maybe?

Y-Maybe is an interactive multimedia diary that helps users focus on meaningful moments. By capturing and reflecting on daily highlights, it promotes a shift in perspective, enabling users to appreciate the positive even in challenging times.

Overview

Problem

The “negativity bias” refers to our tendency to perceive and process negative events more intensely than positive ones. Studies show that negative experiences trigger stronger emotional reactions and have a greater impact on our well-being. Even when positive and negative events are of equal intensity, negative experiences tend to influence us more. This bias often causes us to overlook or underestimate positive moments, making it harder to maintain a balanced perception of our daily experiences.

Scenario & Persona

This morning, Frederik overslept and missed an important meeting. Frustrated, he dwells on his mistake all evening.

Then, a notification from Y-Maybe appears: “What was your best moment today?”

His first thought: “Today was awful! How could I mess up like that?” But he clicks the message anyway and sees his past positive moments in the calendar. One entry reminds him of the cake a colleague brought in. He listens to a voicemail of everyone singing for her birthday and remembers that he actually does a good job. He marks the memory as a favourite and scrolls through other joyful moments from the past months.

He falls asleep feeling better—and wakes up to a reminder of that moment.

Video Demo

For this project, I collaborated with a fellow student from the Digital Media department. We met regularly to discuss what features were feasible. Thanks to his support and our teamwork, Y-Maybe was developed for Android devices. However, the app is not available in the App Store.
